Currently available to let with NEA Lettings is Trunkwell Cottage in
Beech Hill, Reading.
The original house is five hundred years old, with further
extensions dating back four hundred and one hundred years respectively.
In the entrance hall and drawing room is wood panelling
which was fitted by joiners Samuel Elliot and Sons (Reading) Ltd in the 1950’s.
Mr Elliot was given the contract to refurbish state rooms in
the RMS Queen Elizabeth liner in the early 1950’s. RMS Queen Elizabeth was the
largest passenger liner ever built in 1938 and for 56 years thereafter.
.
The panels in the entrance hall and drawing room were left over sections of panelling which Mr Elliott put into his own home Trunkwell Cottage.
In November 1959 Trunkwell Cottage was put up for auction by
Mr Elliot and was purchased by the current owner’s parents through Nicholas
Estate Agents.
The original oak was very dark and the new owners spent many
days liming the wood.
